Electronic signatures and digital signatures

A typed name on a PDF is a visible electronic mark. A certificate-based digital signature is a cryptographic mechanism. They should not be described as the same feature.

The visible mark supplied here

Sign PDF places the name you type on a selected page. Signature Specimen creates a visual sample document. Neither tool verifies your identity, issues a certificate or proves that a separate document was signed by a named person.

What a certificate-based workflow adds

A digital-signature system can bind a certificate and cryptographic signature to document bytes. A reader can then validate the signature and detect changes, subject to its certificate trust and validation rules. That infrastructure is outside the local formatter supplied here.

Ask the recipient

Acceptance depends on the transaction, jurisdiction and recipient’s process. If a bank, government portal or employer requires a digital certificate or a particular signing service, follow that requirement. Do not rely on a visual signature sample as proof of authentication.
