PDF versus Word: sharing and editing

Choose Word when a document needs ongoing editing and PDF when you want to distribute a finished page representation. Neither format automatically guarantees privacy or correctness.

For revision

DOCX supports paragraphs, styles, tables and tracked changes in compatible editors. Keep this source when colleagues need to revise wording. Export a PDF for review after checking pagination and fonts.

For distribution

PDF is useful for forms, statements and print-ready pages. Selectable text is still editable with suitable software; a PDF is not a lock. If access needs protection, use encryption and follow the recipient’s security requirements.

Conversion limits on this site

PDF to Word creates a real DOCX containing extracted text and source page breaks. It does not reconstruct complex tables, images or columns. Word to PDF reflows DOCX text instead of reproducing the exact source design. For faithful appearance, export from the application that authored the source.
