PDF color: why screen and print can differ

PDF content can use different color spaces and profiles. The same numeric color can look different on a display and a printer because the devices reproduce color differently.

Image conversion changes the workflow

Rendering a PDF to JPG creates a raster view using the renderer and output image encoding. It is not a prepress color conversion and should not be treated as a proof of how an offset print run will look.

Keep print requirements with the source

Ask your print provider about page size, bleed, profiles and output requirements. Export from the original design application with those settings. Avoid using a screenshot or an office text extraction as a substitute for a print-ready original.

Review a practical sample

Inspect photos and small colored text after conversion. If exact brand colors matter, use a managed proofing process. The tools here do not certify PDF/X compliance or convert arbitrary files into a press-specific color space.
